Stepping into the egg store at the Kaneshiro family poultry farm is like stepping back into time. From the old fashioned Wurlitzer jukebox to the nostalgic memorabilia in the glass display cases, there is a feeling that history has found a home beneath the plantation style totan roof. What strikes the deepest chord are the blue paper trays of chilled fresh eggs and the rich warmth of the Waimanalo country side.

KK PoultryIn 1947, Kishun and Kikue Kaneshiro decided to expand their farm in Waialae Valley. Spurred by Hawaii's economic boom at the end of World War II, K.K Poultry Farm joined in the effort to support the growing need for food here in the island, by raising chickens and selling eggs. In 1956, when many of the farms in the Waialae area were cleared to make way for residential development, the Kaneshiros rallied and found a new home on the other side of the Koolaus. K.K Poultry reopened at the new location in 1957, and has been a strong supporter of the Waimanalo community ever since. K.K Poultry sells trays and dozens from peewee to jumbo, Wednesday through Sunday, fresh from the farms nostalgic store.
